If you really want to be adventurous go to Huaraz (breathtaking mountains and treks), or visit Chachapoyas to see Gocta Falls (one of the world's tallest waterfalls) and the fort of Kuelap. Also, taking a cargo boat from Pucallpa or Yurimaguas on a 4-5 day trip to Iquitos in the Amazon is incredible. Enjoy your trip, Peru really is a special country.

Im peruvian, and i came to the united states last year. ( Peru is awesome by the way )
I used to live in Lima ( the capital ).
If you stay in Lima, Miraflores or San isidro are the fanciest towns ( hotel ).
I think the biggest tourist attraction is the '' Magical circuit of water '', because is the biggest water circuit in the world. '' Larcomar '' is a big mall with restaurants, movie theather, bars and stores with peruvian products like alpaca sweaters, etc. http://www.larcomar.com/ ( is in english, not in spanish ).
In the south, theres a oasis, naturally surrounded by sand '' huacachina '' but you'll have to sit for a couple of hours in the bus.
Outside Lima, Cusco is a really exciting province, obviously Machu Picchu is the most visited place, its one of the new seven wonders of the world.
Well, arequipa and trujillo are also big cities.
In january and february, is summer in Peru, how about the beach? the best beaches in Peru are located in the north. The most well known beach is called ''Mancora'' in Piura. ( if you can google it, youll see is like a paradise!! ).
Dont forget peruvian gastronomy, is known all over the world. Ceviche is the most known.
This is the best i think, i hope you enjoy your stay in Peru, the land of the Inkas. =)! -

Peru is a very nice country to do many things around.
do not stay too much in Lima, is better to concentrate on other places that have more atractives:
Cusco is a must to visit the Cathedral, Koricancha, and the ruins around, Machu Picchu, Maras and Moray near Cusco and the little valleys around are very colourful.
Colca Canyon, you may need 3 days to really enjoy this
Arequipa
Puno, go to the Uros and Taquile, you will love this!
Nazca lines
Hope it works out :) -

If you want to stay in Lima stay in the Mira Flores area, more for tourists. If I go again I'll skip Lima and spend more time in Cuzco. I stayed in a nice hostel a couple of blocks off the main square run by a woman named Nora Oyantaytambo, Sachsaywoman (sic), the sacred valley are wonderful places to explore.

have you ever tried the Bolivian death road by Bike?!?!? I think that would be really an awesome experience
