Papua New Guinea is an island nation in Oceania

PNG can be conveniently divided into 11 regions :

There is evidence of human settlement as long ago as 35,000 years in what is now Papua New Guinea. This comes from an archaeological site at Matenkupkum, just south of Namatanai in New Ireland province. Other archaeological digs at several locations in New Ireland have discovered tools and food residue dating back 20,000 years.

In more modern times, Papua New Guinea - the eastern half of the island of New Guinea - was divided between Germany and Great Britain in 1884. The Dutch had West Papua, now the Indonesian territory of Papua. The southeast part of the island, also known as Papua, was owned by the UK but administered by Australia - and thus a colony of a colony - until Australian independence in 1901, when it became an Australian colony. This was not just disinterested colonialism. Gold had been discovered in several places and was rapidly exploited. Remnants of vast gold dredges can still be seen in the Bulolo and Wau area.

Papua New Guinea

I was totin' my pack along the long dusty Winnemucca road,
When along came a semi with a high an' canvas-covered load.
"If you're goin' to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land!"

[Chorus:]
I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert's bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Papua New Guinea

I went here in 2008 and loved it! The people are wonderful and there are so many languages! Its an entirely different world and I'm going back!

Papua New Guinea

Blue of the Seven Seas;
Gold of God's great sun
Let these our colors be
Till all of time be done-n-n-ne,
By Severn shore we learn
Navy's stern call:
Faith, courage, service true
With honor over,
honor over all.

Papua New Guinea

Papua, New Guinea. 46 years ago. We had bee having some plane problems. When we flew out at night from an unlighted runway, we knew there was no chance of return.

Goroka

Goroka, EHP. Lived with a tribe, everyone else would say this was once in a lifetime, I'm waiting for my second go-round :)

Papua New Guinea

Eco Tourism Too. Papua New Guinea is supposed to be another hot "Eco Tourim" destination according to the travel website I visted so I would like to go there.

Papua New Guinea

airport. I flew in there for Princess cruises. Makes you a bit concerned when security walks you outside from one side of the SMALL airport to the other. They had a horrendous volcano eruption several years ago and still had not recovered.

Papua New Guinea

dont remember. I was close to shore. Was nice, but spent most of the time on board ship doing surgeries. Went out to screen for surgies though.

Goroka

New Tribes - Goroka. 2005 - Spent one month with a team through Tech Serve Int'l upgrading their electrical system. I helped feed the team.

Port Moresby

Port Moresby / Lae (04/2001). Papua New Guinea is an anomaly all to itself. It's an absolutely beautiful island but very 3rd world. Safety is a major concern there and I don't know that I'd visit on my own.

Papua New Guinea

Anywhere There. I did a paper on Papua New Guinea and I saw pictures of the Indigenous people and I want to see them in person. Their skin is dark as charcoal and black hair as fine Sweeds. Amazing!

Papua New Guinea

Sopas Adventist Hospital in the Highlands above Mt Hagen. Beautiful tropical weather - sunny and warm with daily afternoon thunderstorms. Orchids decorated the mountains. Taught CPR class for nurses, filled in as substitue teacher for a 2 room schoolhouse, and assisted on a C-section. Amazing 3 weeks. (2000)

Papua New Guinea

Vacation. My Aunt and Uncle have been here and loved it so I would like to go and see it for myself. Their pictures were so interesting.

Goroka

Eastern Highlands Region, near Goroka. Jan-Feb 2002. I was a student in a cross-cultural communication course called "Interface", a program of New Tribes Mission. LIFE-CHANGING and WORLD-WIDENING! Best part - worshiping Jesus with tribal believers in THEIR OWN church in their own village pastored by their own people. Beautiful and a taste of Rev.7:9.

Port Moresby

Port Moresby and Lae. Lived here for 10 years firstly in Port Moresby then in Lae travelled to many parts of the country,

Papua New Guinea

Sequel to Margaret Mead. I'd show Margaret Mead a few things.....I'd love to see how things have changed since she wrote about the region/people.
